Newbie to gels question
Sorry if this is dumb.... But what is the difference between gel polish and shellac?

Shellac is the CND brands gel polish.
The difference between Shellac and other brands gel polishes is that Shellac chemically is a hybrid gel and polish where as others may be pigment gel, etc.
Gel polishes can be in bottles or pots.

Most gel polishes are solvent based - you can tell by smelling the bottle. Solvents can sometimes be the cause of dryness, white spots, brittleness and chipping. 100% gels (like Akzentz Luxio) are 100% gel in a bottle and there is a soak off color line too. There are a few companies that have 100% gel polish. Shellac has become like Kleenex - since they spent a fortune on advertising most clients consider gel polish to be Shellac regardless of the product.
