you can't be holding up a sign and protest in front of a abortion clinic in the morning and then in the afternoon turn a blind eye and hold up a sign and protest in front of wic clinic.
knowing and not doing something about it is one thing but buying it to use even just for playing mean you just adding to the need. distributors sell thing because there is a need for them so as long as there are people buying they will be selling, I know if you don't buy it there are plenty that do but you can't control what other do but you are certainly in control of what you do.
Just for thought if you are truthfully care for the public and you taken it up to yourself to be the crusader to stop the use of MMA then..............

I'm not the crusader of anything. No offense but I think the analogy of WIC vs. Abortion Clinic is way off, that's not me in any way at all. I'm not trying to stop the flow of anything or tell people what to do. And you should know by now the World isn't made the way we want it to be, corruption exists on all levels and there are certainly techs that use that crap in Salons to this day. It was just an honest desire to see if I could do something similiar to the phone-cases we are all admiring. By far, I can't write the book on acrylics at all, I'm just starting out but I'd like to play around. See what can be done. To get those effects you more than likely need a slower-setting Medium. And you can bet your sweet dandelions I won't mention here if I buy any because lordy, I can only imagine what kind of maelstrom that will stir up. Even to be used on my own personal property and time, never on clients, never in a Salon.
This is the problem I have with BT, no offense to anyone. Somebody doesn't like what you do or say, all of a sudden the insults start flying and assumptions are made way beyond the content of the conversation. Check the more popular threads here and you see constant feather-ruffling. I will cite the Gelish thread and the personal attack of Suzanne as one of the best-known examples.
Personally, I'm not offended, I'll still participate here regardless; a lesser tech might be chased off. I certainly have no desire to get into a heavy debate about what's right and what isn't but I'm not going to pursue this.
You have your opinion and you make your own choices, as do I and like I said, I'm not offended.
JMHO, just my .02.

Erin, I admire your input and opinions as always. I do think you might be misunderstanding Phams analogy and what is really being said, if you buy MMA acrylics for any reason and use them you are making it so they have to reorder just that much more to keep in stock. So instead of saying no MMA purchase for salon use, would be better to say, no MMA purchase for any use. So they have less need to stock it.
I do agree feathers get ruffled to easy here. I have been offended many a time. When I am told something about my personal skill, knowledge or character in a negative assumptive way by others. We just need to say what we know, think or feel ( as long as its not personal ) and if someone else doesn't like it tough sh!t. As long as we don't name call, or say thing we think about a person and keep it to nails, then feelings shouldn't get hurt, cause it wouldn't be personal. Take everything with a grain of salt. And I do think Pham was trying to be helpful.
I hope you do find acrylic that is affordable while not compromising your health because MMA does get in and poising you via inhalation during work and filing and absorption through skin. It's yucky stuff and we want you to be safe. No go make something and show me some pics. I am excited to do this myself. I think that etsy store has inspired us all in a way, big or small. She rocks that talent. So lets use that inspiration to create Our own ideas.[/b]

No, I hear you, and yes, I do understand the implications of using such a poisonous product, not only for health reasons but the Industry as a whole. I'm actually not mad at all, it's just the wording; I'm kinda shocked such a severe analogy was used. I think there are better ways to put things, but once again, that's JMHO. We're all passionate people here. We wouldn't be in this Industry if we didn't give two darns about things. I'm not "personally" mad at anyone. But I will say, I have felt put down before for not agreeing or doing something the exact way people wanted me to do it, or making "rogue" decisions. Yes, I AM a rule-breaker, but that's why I came into this Industry; I want to help INNOVATE it, even at the tender Age of 41.
I don't want a "beef" with anyone, I'm simply agreeing to disagree at this Juncture.

Oh God, someone said abortion. The internet is now slowing with the influx of complaint e-mails. I said "bend over and spank," a reference to corporal punishment, and I believe the post got deleted. Here we go... hankies and tissues for everyone. We must never make analogies that can offend. If you can't do that (as I can't seem to) try and pretend you live in a bubble
Oh... *wakes up* where was I? Yes... I never thought of putting acrylic into a cake decorating pipe. Hmm. I am slightly less impressed. I envisioned her doing that with her brush! Still, the idea is whimsical and makes me want to eat it. How do you suppose she made the frosting?

Edit: I deleted my previous answer because this is getting frickin' ridonkulous and we've got a congo line that everyone is attaching themselves to. So if you have anything else to say to me, you know how to find me, it's my username here on BT "at" gmail "dot" com. No, this isn't "me" running away to go have a hanky-cry. I stand on my opinions but I'm not going to create any more verbal lighter-fluid for the gallery on beyond this last entry of mine on this particular Thread and I would appreciate it coming to a resolution between Mr. Pham and I personally, not Mr. Pham and tons of other people, ya dig?

MMA is in your car, paints, your computer, tv, epoxies, and maybe even in your mouth! I was taught that the uncured product exposed to the skin is what is hazardous. I understand your point about not supporting it for salon use. But if they are ordering more because it is being used for crafts or to make nail art bits that will be cured first. I don't see anything wrong with. I believe it is legal for them to sell it. When it is used in nail enhancement services then you are breaking the law. (I understand that is obviously the reason they sell it.) That being said I would never bring mma in the salon regardless of usage; just in case of an inspection. I know many of us are probably frustrated by sub-standard salons that cut corners and the fact that state inspectors seem to let it go on. *seriously how hard can it be to go into a salon and demand a sample. It may take what 10 mins?* But I think the evils of mma have been blown out of proportion some.

I'm just going to jump in here quick and simply say that
1. MMA in its LIQUID form is the dangerous part.. once cured it is more or less harmless except for
2. the dust when filing and when used to create enhancements
3. it cures so hard that it will damage the nail plate if banged hard enough, possibly ripping it off..
4. prep of nail plates for MMA application needs to be highly agressive and weakens the structure
5. removal of cured product also needs to be agressive further damaging the structure of the nail plate
I would never recommend MMA even for practice nails in your own home on tips..
