Very pretty - beautiful color, Janet. I always enjoy looking at your work. Your presentation is lovely.

Can you tell us where the Pearl-Ex pigments can be purchased? If you have mentioned it before, I am sorry that I missed it. I am not familiar with these pigments.

Janet - I found the pigments by googling them. There is an art store close to me that carries them. I live just a few miles from a Dick Blick art store which has awesome things - yea!!

Are you mixing these with acrylic or gel? (I am only using gel, and a bit new at it.) It seems that they mix well with any medium from the way the instructions sound.

Do you have any hints on a mix ratio when using these? Any mixing tips?

Hi Jan!

I use Gel.. when mixing the pigments, just use a very small amount of pigment .
If you us too much pigment it will not cure ..

( I bought
my pigments
at Michales)

Propeditech, I'm going to add a bit to what Janet said about mixing pigments with gel. I mix them all the time and the one thing you want to remember just like Janet says is not to mix too much pigment in or it won't cure. I mix my pigment in kinda heavy but that's so I can put it on really thin. The more heavily pigmented, the thinner the coat needs to be, so the light can go thru to cure. If you mix it lightly pigmented, you'll possilbly need several coats to achieve the color you want. I like to build the nail, apply two THIN coats of color then seal. That way the color doesn't bulk the nail out.

Apply just like polish, first coat needs to be 'see thru', the second coat the same but the two together makes the opaque coat you want. Big Grin

Please forgive me if this is an insult Janet...it looks like they are "swirly", similar to the ones where you drip the polish into water and then swirl it around and dip the nail in. Is that the effect you were going for? Please tell me exactly how you did that? thanks, Sue

Janet, I always love your work, these too:-)

If I may add to Sue's question...
I use these pigments too. The outcome seems to follow your brush strokes. I 'polish' the gel on like Donna said, on my finished nail. Janet, these look like perhaps you 'swirled' like in gel application. I like the effect, they look 'textured.' Here's a link to a set I did using the same color...
