UV Lamps for Gel Polish

I have been using and have been very satisfied with Shellac for 1 1/2 yrs. now and use my Brisa Lamp for curing. I thought I would make it through the holidays before changing bulbs, but the red light came on tonite and they need replaced. My local supplier does not have them in stock. And of course my week is filled with Shellac clients. Not sure if I should use my old IBD Lamp or just buy the Star Pro 36watt lamp (cheaper) or the Shellac lamp from the local supplier. The other thing is that I tried the OPI Gelcolor and I like that, too. It cured well with the Brisa Lamp but I am possibly interested in OPI's new lamp so I could get the 30second cure. It is so hard to decide what to do sometimes! Advice appreciated!

I know they say not too, but I am one of those girls using my PNI 36 watt tunnel lamp to cure all of my SOGP lines. I never have any problems with under or over curing. I just have to be realistic and know that I cannot afford nor store every brands required lamp. So I just use the one and it's great. I think you will be fine using your other light until you can get your bulbs.

I agree with sobeit. as someone who used to work in electronics manufacturing, most "brand" lamps are just that; a "brand". bulb quality is what really matters, and as long as your bulbs aren't too elderly you shouldn't have an issue, it's probably going to work out better to use an "off" brand lamp with better bulbs than it is to depend on the "correct" lamp with failing bulbs.

Be careful you aren't confusing LED lamps with UV lamps. Not all products can be cured with an LED lamp.
Also, not all 36 Watt lamps are created equal. Wattage has nothing to do with the energy output of a lamp, so there can be high quality 36 Watt UV lamps and low quality 36 Watt UV lamps. That is part of the reason why manufacturers are adamant about using "their" lamp. They've tested it and know that it fully cures their product.
That being said, at NSI, we tell people if you have a good, branded lamp (a la OPI, CND, Young Nails, etc.) you will probably be fine. BUT, if you told me you bought a cheap 36 Watt lamp off of eBay with no name on it, I would be concerned....If the product doesn't cure properly, it won't perform properly. Instead of blaming the lamp, techs usually blame the product first, which is what manufacturers are afraid of. It makes sense for us to push the lamps that our products are tested with and designed to work with.

I was quoted today for the OPI LED lamp. I was told it was $499. Outrageous!
