zebra vs black files
ok curiosity wants to know. if you have a black 100 grit file and a zebra 100/180 grit file, if they are both 100/180 grit why do they feel and work differently? which is better to prep the nail? whic grit do you prefer for the prep of the natural nail? i know some use 180 some use 100...
was thinking about another post and I use the 180 zebra. maybe i need a harsher grit? i'm terrified of over filing the nail plate. CND trained since '02 Lumos & Famous Names- Famous Partner~ want Lumos? Email me! http://Www.facebook.com/cloudnineathens Lumos! Dadi' Oil! Vamoos! |

RE: zebra vs black files
Neither . . . love white 100/180 files instead.

RE: zebra vs black files

White vs. black means no black dust.

RE: zebra vs black files
The colour is probably just preference. I'm with Jaime - I use 180/180 files most of the time - I do gels so I don't need anything coarser than that. If you are using a 100 grit file on a natural nail that's much too coarse for nail prep. All you need to do is remove the shine - even a buffer block will work for that.

RE: zebra vs black files
Grit is not everything. The quality of the paper and the quality of the core of the file makes a huge difference. I always loved Soft Touch files. Made in the US.
I feel that 180 is too coarse for the natural nail. 240 is way better. 180 is good for the gel surface Anna website: http://www.polished.ca blog: http://www.polished4pros.blogspot.com/ |

Soft Touch reminds me . . . to learn more about "disinfectable" files, read about the lawsuit.

It was more complicated than that. The California BBC had illegally "endorsed" the Soft Touch files, resulting in a fierce response from other file manufacturers. I never heard about that lawsuit and wasn't suggesting to use these files because one can disinfect them.. ![]() Here in Ontario we can only sanitize and disinfect non porous tools. All files and blocks are one time use only. I used their files because they are nice, sturdy files that filed the product well

Good points, Anna. That's why it's always best to follow the rules, rather than rely on manufacturer labeling.
