Gelcolor help?

I tried searching previous threads for this answer to this, and didn't find anything, so here goes.
I got the "lincoln park after dark" gelcolor for a friend of mine who also wears a gel overlay (her nails are horribly thin). Did the overlay as per usual, and applied the gelcolor directly onto it with the "sticky" layer still intact like other sogp. Even after vigorous shaking, the color wouldn't stay mixed, and it took at least three coats to achieve the color, and even with full cures in between it still pooled like crazy.
I couldn't find anything on OPI's website about this, so I was hoping one of you ladies could tell me what I need to do to fix this problem.
I know everyone loves it, and I really want to love it too, I just need to figure out what I have to do to make this work.

I don't apply GP over the sticky layer of hard gels. I remove the sticky layer, finish file and buff, then cleanse the nail completely with Scrubfresh. The GP goes on after this.

I did have a similar problem applying OPI Pompeii Purple on a clients natural nails. Went on horrible. Peggy recommended to stir the color with a stick to fully mix the pigment into the gel in the bottle. I didn't try that yet.

do you apply the basecoat again after finish filing or just over the filed gel? I've always applied other gel polishs directly onto the inhibition layer without any problems, but maybe with this stuff it'll work better directly onto the rough surface. I'll have to try that for sure.
Hmmm. I'll have to see if I tool narrow enough to fit in there, that's a good idea.
