I've used both Shellac and Jessica Geleration and I like Geleration a lot. I think it is also a perfect complement to Shellac. Although Jessica is a well respected brand with great customer service, it just doesn't have the marketing clout of CND and Shellac, so if I could only have one, it would be Shellac. There are four things that I think make Geleration superior:
1. Colours - Jessica has over 60 with more on the way and their range is excelllent, from neons and primaries, to neutrals to brights.
2. Colours (no, I'm not repeating myself!) - Geleration colours are a gel polish version of their regular NP, so clients can have gel on fingers and regular NP on toes, and it is a great retail opportunity.
3. LED cure - and it will also cure in a CND Shellac CFL UV light, per manufacturer's instructions.
4. It has a builder gel that allows you to build strength, although not enhance length, for clients that need it.

I have used Shellac base and top with everything out there - Gelish, Geleration, ACG - but only on me, not on clients. Shellac base makes for easy removal for every system although its durability isn't as good as Gelish or others. I think Geleration is definitely worth a good look.

Geleration is thinner than Shellac, almost watery in comparison, but it applies nicely and it is easy to get nice thin coats. I do not buff the nail on any gel polish or Shellac and they hold well on me and most clients. Must have colours - well, of course it depends on your clientele, but my favs are Venus was Her Name (purple gray), Cherrywood and Windsor Castle, for deep reds Nutter Butter and Buck Naked for browns, Royal Red for your letterbox red, Sweet Breath for french and absolutely must have Chic which is great on its own or for layering.

Putting my two cents in for IBD's Just Gel Polish. Wow... we are loving it and having great results. I do have to agree about CND's marketing power... and we also would only offer it IF they had a larger selection and range of colors. Customers are going nuts for the ability to have this new type of manicure and want more more more in terms of color. I just couldn't keep them happy with the limited selection. I do, however, always buy their colors (even if the price point is steep) because I want to always be able to satisfy the marketing efforts that CND puts forth. It does truly drive the clients into the salon.

When I wrote to IBD about my problems with Gelac, they replaced all my Gelac with Just Gel. I love their colours, and although the application is easy, I found the base and top difficult to remove. They're coming out with new colours soon and you can't beat the price. So I use Just Gel colours with either Shellac or OPI base/top coats on me.

Nancy... I haven't had any problems with removal... I buff lightly the top coat before wrapping it - is that the way you do it?

That's what I do as well. The only brands I use that I don't buff for removal are Shellac and now OPI. Just Gel I found hard to remove, especially at the tips. I re-wrapped and let it soak longer which helped, but still it was not easy. The first time I thought maybe I'd applied it too thick, but the next time I made sure to do thin coats and still had removal issues. But I absolutely love their colours and look forward to seeing the new ones soon.

HAve you ever used geleration with shellac base coat and if so how did it go? also do you remove it the same way like shellac?

Because Shellac is so easy to remove, I've used Shellac base and top with just about everything, including Geleration and it has worked with everything. But I want to reiterate that I have done this on my own nails. Since I am no longer working as a tech, I can't say that this is appropriate to do on clients.
