I think I read somewhere that mobil salons are not legal in California :-(
*mobile
From the State Board website.....

6. What type of license is needed for a mobile spa business?
If you are planning to provide services inside of a mobile unit you would need to apply for the Mobile Unit Application. The requirements for this license are listed on our web site under Business and Professions Code sections 7354-7361 and California Code Regulations section 937.

7. I would like to offer spa/bridal parties in the consumers' home; is this legal?
No. Any type of service that is regulated by the Board needs to be performed by a licensee in a licensed establishment. Licensee's providing spa / bridal parties at an unlicensed location may be cited for Business and Profession Code 7317. Practice of Barbering, Cosmetology, or Electrolysis for Compensation Without License which carries a $1,000 fine.

I believe mobile salons are allowed, however, it has to be truly mobile with potable water and approved by state board. I'm sure there is information on the state board website.

From the State Board website i understand it to mean that you have to have a vehicle or trailer that you perform the services inside. You can't perform services in the client's home. And yes, the vehicle or trailer has to be inspected and approved by the State Board.

I'm confused as well because I've certainly seen the Real Housewives of OC receive services from the self proclaimed "Queen of Nails" Katy Cazorla in their homes on air. There was also an article in the most recent Nailpro about a mobile nail spa in LA.

I'm so glad not to be in CA because it seems like there is a disconnect between the nail techs and the board, even when the techs talk directly TO the board.

Katie was performing services herself?
Right now, salons that use foot spa liners in California are not in compliance, unless they're still doing all the cleaning required.

She was! Lol. In the scene they didn't give her caption recognition, but I saw her at the table nailing.

OT...Did I miss the thread on her nail tech feeding clients body scrub because I KNOW yall didn't let that pass on by?! LOL

To my understanding, you are allowed to be mobile AS LONG AS you have a physical location also. I don't have a website that I can direct you to that says this but I have a friend who offers mobile nail services in the Los Angeles area. She was featured in Nails Magazine for being mobile and the State Board of Cosmetology contacted her regarding this. Since she also worked in a salon, she was able to provide her salon name and address and she did not get in any trouble or receive a fine. On the flip side, I also know someone who is on the CA State Board of Cosmetology and I asked him about being mobile. What he said is that it is technically not allowed however rarely enforced out here since so many celebrities, studios, etc. have such a demand for it. I hope that helps!

That's a breath of fresh air... Because honestly, they haven't went into specifics on their website. I didn't want to go to Sacramento to find out, as I'm 50 miles away. Thank you.
