need advice on spa and education issues
#1
lets try this again...had this all typed out and accidentally hit something on my laptop that made me go back to the homepage!!!

1st issue: The owner of the spa that I work at (on Saturdays only) does not have any policies in place regarding No Shows, Cancellations. I have worked there since March 2011 and brought the issue up last year after several Saturdays in a row where my appts have cancelled (last minute) or been a no show. I suggested that she do so...especially since she is a new business and we do not get a lot of walk-ins (if any). She is a REALLY sweet person, but these days the majority of the clientele are either friends/business associates/family members of hers...and they don't treat the business like it is one either. There have been instances, on more than one occasion, where I'm told I have an appt w/Ms. X at 9:00am..only to get to work and find out they cancelled that morning and my next appt won't be until 12 or 1pm. Or Ms. X is scheduled for 10am (and is chronically late), arrives at 10:30 and my next appt is @ 11:00. Has anyone ever had these experiences and how did you handle it? She is not just my boss, I also look at her like a friend and have only stayed this long because everyone else (2 estheticians and too many LMT's to count) have bailed on her within the last year.

2nd issue: I am interested in taking one of two hands on workshops during the Premiere Orlando show in two weeks. The first one is on Saturday with Amerikan Body Art. I operated a mobile spa party service and have some supplies..but want the hands on training and marketing help. Monday's class is the Efile certification. While I mostly do natural nail services at the spa, I do know that this will help me feel more confident if I HAD to use an efile...and eventually start doing gels. Which one do you think would be better for me in the long run???

Hi Jaime! We met during the IBSNY show this past April...and I got my pic taken with you!! I wasn't able to attend the Brochure Basics class but was there for the Waterless Pedicure class. I did want to take the class for the benefit of my mobile spa party business...however, I'm unsure how it would help my situation in regards to the salon owner if she is not willing to make any policy changes

Thanks for identifying yourself!

This situation comes up frequently; when a salon owner negatively impacts your ability to earn money, and is unwilling to change, then it's time to find a new place to work.
