Vintage Hawaii...1930’s
From the 1930’s we get some great images from post cards, posters, airline ads, etc. All of these inviting people to visit Hawaii which was not yet a state.
To create these vintage hawaii postcards I first painted the nails “silver dollar” blue from Amoresse. For each post card I first used a striper brush to paint a yellow border as an outline of the post card. I used 10/0 liner brush for backgrounds and a 20/0 monogram brush and acrylic craft paints for all the artwork.
Each nail has a different hula girl and message starting with “Land of Aloha” with a ukelele girl, “Aloha” with coconut bikini girl, “Hawaii greets you” with Lei maker hula girl, “taste of Hawaii” with pineapple girl and on the thumb, a palm tree and a post mark from Hilo, Hawaii dated 10-21-35.
To create the 3D hibiscus flowers I used Young Nails fast set clear powder. I wiped out most of the monomer from my brush and dipped in powder to pick up a very small bead of acrylic, then I placed it on a nail form...only taking up one little square on the nail form...shaped it into a petal, bent the form a little to curve the petal and let it harden. I also made a stamen for the flower with a similar method. Using a gel glue I placed a small dot of glue where I wanted the flower and with tweezers set 5 petals down then allowed the glue to dry. When the glue was dry I painted the flower white with acrylic craft paint and then addes red accents to the flower and stamen. Finally I applied the top coat to give it all supershine!
